Hi,

I'm preparing for the CCENT cert. How do I know if a device is a DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) or a DCE (Data Communications Equipment) ? I read that if two devices hooked together are both DTE's or Both DCE's then your supposed to use a cross over cable to connect them.

But I'm unsure what types of devices are each of these. Does anywone know whic type of cable I have to use ?

The idea is that if you are connecting two like devices such as router to router or switch to switch then you will need to use a cross over cable. A cross over cable is also used when connecting a router to a PC. (In theory) In the real world Auto-MDIX will take care of those issues if the device supports it.
