Packet Tracer 5.3 limitations

Only a few IOS commands are implemented in Packet Tracer simulated equipments. Although this simulation software might be enough to prepare the CCNA exam, CCNP training requires to practice on a real CiscoTM lab.

CCNP switch (624-813) features not available in Packet Tracer :

  • Spanning Tree : Multiple Spanning Tree, Spanning Tree timers configuration, ...
  • Err-disabled ports recovery features
  • First Hop Redundancy Protocols (HSRP, VRRP, GLBP)
  • QOS features for VOIP (Auto QOS, ...)
  • Management : SNMP v2 and v3, Syslog options, IP SLA
  • Security : 802.1x, DHCP snooping, Dynamic ARP inspection, VLAN access-lists, Private VLAN
  • Show and debug commands
